At the heart of the Dagbong Kingdom stands the Yaa-Naa, the King of Dagbong, who serves as the supreme ruler, spiritual leader, and custodian of the Kingdom’s customs and traditions. The Yaa-Naa embodies the unity, strength, and continuity of Dagbong’s royal heritage. From the royal palace in Yendi, His Majesty oversees the governance of the Kingdom, ensuring peace, justice, and prosperity for all Dagbamba people.
The Yaa-Naa’s authority is rooted in centuries-old traditions passed down from the founding fathers of Dagbong. His leadership represents not only the spiritual and political will of the people but also the living connection between the past and the present.
Supporting the Yaa-Naa in his duties is the Royal Council, a distinguished body of chiefs, elders, and advisors drawn from various traditional divisions across the Kingdom. The Council ensures that the administration of Dagbong remains fair, transparent, and in harmony with ancestral customs.
The Royal Council advises the Yaa-Naa on matters of governance, land, culture, and external relations. Its members also play key roles in preserving peace, settling disputes, and promoting unity among the people of Dagbong.

The Kingdom is organized into several divisional and sub-chiefs, each entrusted with the responsibility of governing their local areas. These chiefs uphold the Yaa-Naa’s authority within their communities, ensuring that the values of loyalty, respect, and discipline remain strong.
From Karaga to Mion, Savelugu to Tolon, each traditional area contributes to the strength and unity of Dagbong. The chiefs serve not only as custodians of the land but also as cultural ambassadors who promote development and peace in their respective domains.
Among the key positions within the Royal Council is that of the Chief-in-Charge of Guests, a title held by His Royal Highness Chief Sofwan Al Hassan. Appointed by the Ya-Naa, Chief Sofwan Al Hassan oversees the reception of foreign dignitaries, ambassadors, and visitors to the Kingdom. His role embodies Dagbong’s long-standing reputation for royal hospitality, ensuring that every guest experiences warmth, honor, and the true essence of Dagbong tradition.
